Equipment for explosive atmospheres (ATEX)

The conformity assessment according to the requirements of the Technical Regulation of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1055 dated December 28, 2016, is a mandatory requirement. Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres shall meet the essential health and safety requirements set out in Annex II of the Technical regulation. National standards are used to confirm compliance, that provides a presumption of equipment compliance with the requirements of the Technical Regulation of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

It is necessary to submit an application to the Conformity Assessment Body "TECKO" for carrying out conformity assessment work with the requirements of the Technical Regulation. The technical file is attached in electronic form together with the application in accordance with the List defined by the relevant assessment procedures (modules).  It is necessary to send a completed application with a set of documents on e-mail: info@tecko.com.ua. This Directive shall apply to the following:

  • quipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres;
  • safety devices, controlling devices and regulating devices intended for use outside potentially explosive atmospheres but required for or contributing to the safe functioning of equipment and protective systems with respect to the risks of explosion;
  • components intended to be incorporated into equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

The equipment is divided into the following groups:

  • group I – equipment intended for use in underground parts of mines, and in those parts of surface installations of such mines, liable to be endangered by firedamp and/or combustible dust, comprising equipment categories M1 and M2;
  • group II – quipment intended for use in other places liable to be endangered by explosive atmospheres, comprising equipment categories 1, 2 and 3.

Equipment of category M1 and category 1 -  ensuring a very high level of protection.

Equipment of category M2 and category 2 - ensuring a high level of protection.

Equipment of category 3 - ensuring a normal level of protection.

The following conformity assessment modules are applied:

1) for equipment-groups I and II, equipment-categories M1 and 1: modules B, D, F, G.

2) for equipment-groups I and II, equipment categories M2 and 2:

in the case of internal combustion engines and electrical equipment: modules B, C1, E, G;

in the case of other equipment in these groups and categories: modules A, G; the communication of the technical documentation provided for in Annex VIII, point 2, to a notified body, which shall acknowledge receipt of it as soon as possible and shall retain it.

3) for equipment-group II, equipment category 3: modules A, G.

Affixing the mark of conformity to technical regulation is mandatory.

The list of national standards that meet European harmonized standards and voluntary application of which can be perceived as proof of compliance with the requirements of the Technical Regulation of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Order of Ministry of Economic Development №240 from 22.02.2018 as amended by Order of the Ministry of Economic Development of January 30, 2019 No. 124).
